Gareth Bale is possibly the most expensive player in the world. Not necessarily because of his transfer market value. Compared to younger players like Kylian Mbappé, Erling Haaland or Phil Foden, his price is high, but not as the others’. He turns expensive after earning a sky-high salary that is not proportional to his playing time.
The Welsh winger was one of the most expensive transfers ever when he moved from Tottenham Hotspur to Real Madrid for $122 million at the beginning of 2013-2014 season. After a successful period, he started to lose some minutes and was loaned back to the Spurs. And now, he is still struggling, even more than before, to play.

His relationship with coach José Mourinho is not the easiest. Recently, the Portuguese reprimanded him in front of his team-mates by asking if he was going to stay or move back to Real Madrid to be in the bench. The only positive thing, if there still is one, is he is earning an extremely big salary.
As per math made by English newspaper The Sun, he is paid £650,000 a week, which could be converted into over $46 million per year. So far, he earned $8.9 million in his current period in Tottenham. In proportion with the outcome in the field, he’s been paid $12,300 for each one of the 785 minutes he has played.
