Inter Miami didn’t complete a very good first year of history in the MLS. The team that David Beckham founded and presides finished 10th in the Eastern Conference, after earning 24 points on 23 matches played. Despite millionaire hiring as the one of Gonzalo Higuían, the best paid player in the league, or Blaise Matuidi, they weren’t able to achieve their objectives.
In the play-in round they lost against Nashville SC and were disqualified. They couldn’t even make it to the MLS Cup Playoffs, what significate a complete humiliation for them. Head coach Diego Alonso had to leave his position after such bad season, and Beckham decided to hire a new manager in which he trusts a lot.
Phil Neville, who was a companion from Beckham at Manchester United, accepted the position and is now officially the new trainer from the MLS side. Neville is 43 years old and had many jobs linked to soccer after his retirement: he was the second coach of Valencia CF, of England U21 national team and of MUFC as well.
The relationship with Beckham, and some other legends of that club, continued as they all bought a humble club named Salford in 2014. Eight years after retirement, Neville will meet Beckham again. The president of Inter Miami offered him almost a million dollars per season to assume as the new coach, an offer that he couldn’t reject.
