Lionel Messi signed a mind-boggling deal when he moved to Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month. The 6-time Ballon d'Or winner is set to earn about €729,000 per week at the French capital on his 2-year deal. This comes to approximately €2.9m per month and €38m for a year. Despite this amazing sum, Messi ranks far amongst the best-paid sportsmen.
One of the well-paid Sportsmen is Mexican boxer, Canelo Alvarez. The professional boxer earns a fortune from his boxing career. Due to the nature of the sport, the boxer fights just about 3 or 4 matches in one year but he earns millions of dollars from each fight. Alvarez is reported to have earned an estimated $12m from a fight against Lloyd Mayweather in 2013. Afterwards, he pocketed another $25m in a fight against Amir Khan in 2016.
The Mexican star also earned an impressive $70m across two fights against Gennady Golovkin. In October 2018, the boxer signed a 5-year deal worth $365m with broadcaster DAZN. He also has endorsement deals with Under Armour, Coppel Tecate, Hennessy and Everlast.
For Lionel Messi, he would normally play 1 match or at most 2 matches in a week. This means that the ex-Barcelona captain earns on an average €364,500 per match. This means that Canelo Alvarez earns way more than the Argentine over a single year.
