In order to join the Anfield outfit this summer, the 26 year-old winger is willing to take a significant pay cut. It is unexpected that the Spaniard would suddenly change his mind since it was previously said that he would only sign with a team if he was assured a spot in the starting XI.

Asensio’s contract expires next summer and his current deal earns him around £150,000 a week. Catalan media reports claim that the Spanish star was demanding a deal of between £100,000 and £115,000 a week for an extension, but he is willing to slash his wages further to join the Reds in the Premier League.

Given that the Merseyside club is known for developing a strong rigid pay structure, this may affect the likelihood of the transfer. It has also been claimed that Asensio's price tag has been reduced from £43 million to £26 million by Real Madrid, who are getting tired of his recent attitude.

Other suitors for Asensio

The three-time Champions League champion is also coveted by Scudetto winners AC Milan and Premier League powerhouse Arsenal, but it appears Asensio’s preferred destination would be Liverpool.
