Manchester United will face the last game of the season on Sunday, when they visit Crystal Palace in Selhurst Park, a game that will become a turning point for the future of The Red Devils, as it will be the farewell of several players on the current roster.

Darwin Nuñez already took a decision about playing for Manchester United next season

But it will also mark the start of Erik ten Hag’s stint as their new coach, who will have the opportunity to rebuild the roster and return them to the front pages of Premier League, as they haven’t won the English league since the 2012-13 season.

One of the zones that ten Hag will have to prioritize the rebuilding is the midfield, as not only Paul Pogba is set to become a free agent, but also the contracts of the Spanish Juan Mata and the Serbian Nemanja Matić expire in June.

Matić announced back in April that he was ready to part ways with The Red Devils after analyzing the present of the team, as he informed in an Instagram post, where he thanked the fans for their unwavering support.

He knows who he wants his replacement to be

But the 33-year-old Serbian midfielder, who joined Manchester United back in 2017 and is getting ready to face his 190th and last game wearing the Red Devils colors, knows that he can’t leave the Red Devils without at least helping them to find his replacement.

During an interview with the official website of Manchester United, where he wished farewell to United fans, he also hinted that academy midfielder Hannibal Mejbri has the talent and capability to fill the spot that will be left in the midfield.

Mejbri already debuted this season with the first team in the 4-0 defeat against Liverpool, but his display left good impressions in the roster and even in former Manchester United player Gary Neville, who praised the youngster.

Mejbri’s numbers in the season

The 19-year-old Tunisian offensive midfielder had his debut in Premier League this season, but his major contributions were in Premier League 2, where he played 10 games, scoring one goal and two assistances. Mejbri missed part of the season as he was called up to play for the Tunisian national team in the Africa Cup of Nations.
