The Red Devils will play the final game of the season on Sunday, when they visit Crystal Palace FC in Selhurst Park Stadium, a game that will be the farewell of several Manchester United players, as they will become free agents once the season is over.

Edinson Cavani is one of the players that is set to leave Old Trafford, which is why Erik ten Hag is already looking for a replacement, especially since Cavani was only able to score two goals in the season, after playing only 14 games, as he was injured most of the season.

According to reports from The Mirror, Manchester United have showed interest in SL Benfica striker Darwin Nuñez, who has been one of the top scorers in Europe in the current season, making him a priority for the Dutchman and the project he’s building.

Nuñez already took a decision, will he arrive?

The reports from The Mirror, Manchester United were the favorites to sign the 22-year-old Uruguayan striker as they already started negotiations with Benfica, as they offered $85 million to acquire Nuñez for the 2022-23 season.

But according to Diario AS, Nuñez, who knows that he already played his last game wearing Benfica colors, has one condition for the teams interested in him: to play Champions League next season, something that leaves Manchester United out of the race.

Even if the offer was attractive for Benfica, Darwin Nuñez has other plans for his future, as he knows that playing Champions League in the World Cup year would help him arrive at a higher level to Qatar, as Diego Alonso is considering him as one of the strikers that will play for Uruguay.

Manchester United have a Plan B

Although they were confident that they could complete his signing, Manchester United also knew that they needed to search for other options in case Nuñez didn’t arrive, which is why they are also negotiating with SS Napoli to acquire Victor Osimhen, according to reports from La Repubblica.
