One of the first things that Erik ten Hag has on his to-do list now that he’s focused on planning what will be the 2022-23 Premier League season for Manchester United, is to improve the offense of the Red Devils, as they are in need of strikers.

Edinson Cavani will leave as a free agent at the end of the season and Mason Greenwood is still suspended by the league and it looks complicated that he’ll return, leaving them with Cristiano Ronaldo as the only striker and no right-wingers.

That’s why the Dutchman is in need of at least two offensive players before the season begins, especially since the future of Cristiano Ronaldo on the team is still uncertain, although both parties have said to be excited to work with one another.

To substitute Cavani, reports have linked SL Benfica striker Darwin Nuñez as the first option, but they also are negotiating with SS Napoli for the transfer of 23-year-old Victor Osimhen. On the other hand, he’s also looking to acquire AFC Ajax right-winger Antony, who has become a top priority.

Ajax doesn’t have a replace for Antony

The 22-year-old Brazilian striker arrived at Ajax two years ago thanks to Erik ten Hag. In the two seasons that he’s played in Europe, he’s helped the Godenzonen won two Eredivisie titles and one KNVB Cup, thanks to his contributions.

The Brazilian international has become an invaluable player for Ajax, who will refuse any offers that arrive at Amsterdam Arena, given that they don’t have a player to replace him immediately, although it might be hard to let pass a good offer.

Ten Hag knows this, and according to De Telegraaf, the Dutchman said during an interview that if Ajax “If Antony would go, it would be a blow for Ajax because in their current squad there is nobody to replace him,” although he’s found a way of making his arrival at Old Trafford a reality.

How can Manchester United add him?

Reports suggest that the Red Devils already presented an offer of $48 million, but money won’t be enough to convince Ajax to sell him. According to reports from United in Focus, ten Hag has suggested Manchester United to swap players added to the monetary fee, as it won’t leave Ajax without a right-winger.

This could also benefit Manchester United on the long run, as if they decide to send in a one-year loan either Amad Diallo, who currently is on loan with Rangers FC, or Facundo Pellistri, who is on loan with Alaves, it will only improve their level hence their market value for the future.
