Although today's result was not adverse for the locals in terms of the score, which ended in a 1-1 draw, in terms of access to the Champions League it is a bad result.
The match started with back and forth from one side of the field to the other, and from the 4th minute, the first Chelsea attacks were seen, through Mason Mount, who with a powerful shot from outside the area, which Fred managed to block.
And so the attacks continued from one side of the field to the other, like the one that occurred in the 13th minute from a corner kick taken by Manchester United, with which Rashford tried to put in a cross, but Azpilicueta managed to deflect the ball.
It seemed that the match would end with a 0-0 scoreline, but in the 60th minute, Marcos Alonso Mendoza decided to take advantage of a rebound that came off a cross from his team, and left-footed a powerful shot.
This made the score 0-1, and it was thought that the Red Devils were going to get discouraged and not continue with their attacks, but the opposite happened.
In fact, the equalizer scored by Cristiano Ronaldo came in the 62nd minute, just 2 minutes after Mendoza's goal!
The play started with a ball that Nemanja Matic recovered and when he saw Cristiano Ronaldo outside the area, he served the ball to Mr. Champions, who received the pass with his right foot and with the same, shot towards the goal, with which he managed to score the 1-1 of the match.
And although both clubs fought wildly to try to win the match, the scoreboard would not move any further and the two clubs would negotiate a draw, taking 1 point each.
And while this result is positive for Thomas Tuchel's Chelsea, for Ralf Rangnick's Manchester United the result could not have been worse, and not only because they could not have climbed higher in the Premier League standings.
Manchester United are currently in 4th place in the Premier League standings, and if they remain in that position by the end of the season, which is perilously close, they will have to say goodbye to the UEFA Champions League.
This is because only the top 4 teams in the overall standings can qualify for this tournament, and the other two can have a pass to the UEFA Europa League.
And with this draw, the club was very, very far from the possibility of the Champions League, so if they wish to compete in the most prestigious club tournament in the world, they will have to wait for a miracle to happen, and not lose their next matches.
