One of the first decisions that Erik ten Hag will have to make once he assumes the coaching role of Manchester United on July 1st is what will happen with Harry Maguire, one of the players that has mistaken the most throughout the season.

The poor performances that the 29-year-old center-back has had throughout the 2021-22 Premier League Season have made him the most criticized players not only in the Red Devils, but also in England National Team.

Although the problem might be the formation that Manchester United plays with, a 4-line in the back, as he has succeeded more when he plays in a 5-line, like it happened in Leicester, it looks improbable that Erik ten Hag is going to modify it.

The most expensive defender in history has become a liability for Manchester United, which is why the Dutchman will have to decide what will happen with him, as he already decided that he no longer be the captain for the next season.

Ten Hag already has his replacement in mind

His poor performances could even make him lose his place in the starting XI now that Manchester United is trying to set up a new playing style, one that is riskier than what they are used to with Ralf Rangnick, as the Dutchman usually likes to pressure their rivals high up.

That’s why according to reports from The Telegraph, Erik ten Hag is looking to add his now-former defender, Lisandro Martínez, who arrive at AFC Ajax in 2019 thanks to ten Hag and has excelled with de Godenzonen.

His arrival at Manchester United could not be at a better time, as it will give him a chance of playing against some of the biggest teams in the world on a weekly basis, just in time for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, as Lionel Scaloni has in Martínez one of their top defenders.

How much will Manchester have to pay for him?

The Argentine international renewed this season with Ajax until 2025, something that increased his market value up to $35 million, a figure that Manchester United will have to pay to the Eredivisie champions if they want to acquire his services.
