Before the game kicked off, the Santiago Bernabeu honored UFC featherweight champion Ilia Topuria. Topuria is the first Spanish UFC Champion and is a huge Real Madrid fan. Topuria walks out with his UFC belt and does the honorary kick-off for the Real Madrid vs. Sevilla game at the Santiago Bernabeu, filled with 85,000 fans. Topuria shook hands with Real Madrid's captain, Nacho, and former Real Madrid captain, Sergio Ramos. Ramos was also honored as he returned to the Bernabeu but as an opponent.

Topuria and UFC President Dana White have expressed that they would like to host a UFC event in Spain one day. Since Topuria is a Real Madrid fan, reporters asked White if it was possible to host a UFC event in Santiago Bernabeu. White asked about the stadium's capacity, and the reporter told him 80,000 for football and 35,000 for a closed event like the UFC. Dana White said, "Sounds good, I like it.”

Real Madrid had a goal ruled out in the first half

Real Madrid thought they took the lead in the 10th minute when Lucas Vasquez scored. VAR took a long time to check if there was anything before the play that could cause the goal to be ruled out. Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti was furious with the referee for taking so long and received a yellow card. The goal was disallowed for a foul from Nacho on En-Nesyri in the build-up.
