Cole played 281 matches for Chelsea, registering 39 goals and 45 assists. He played with the London club from 2003 to 2010. The player suffered a knee injury that took him out of action during the 2008/2009 and 2009/2010. Cole explains the injury was the beginning of the end of his time at Chelsea.

Cole explains, " I done my knee [January 2009] and that was probably the start of the end of my career because I was never the same player after that. I done everything, ACL, PCL, MCL, and I was out for 11 months."

Cole explains that Chelsea was not interested in new contract extensions due to the player's injury, and the English attacking midfielder was looking at other options. The player was offered deals with Tottenham, Arsenal, and Liverpool in the Premier League.

"Chelsea was right from a business perspective. The club pulled back from negotiations," Cole said. "I had a choice between Liverpool or Spurs because Arsenal pulled out and I just couldn't go to Spurs. I just couldn't do it."

Joe Cole would not have picked Liverpool if he had his time back

Joe Cole moved to Liverpool after Chelsea and played for three years at Anfield. The player reflects on his time in Merseyside and says he would have preferred to go somewhere else after leaving Chelsea. He expresses his desire to play abroad instead of playing at Liverpool because of the heat abroad countries offered, which could've helped his knee problems.

"It didn't work for me there, but it is a fantastic club [Liverpool FC], an institution globally. But if I could have my time again, I would probably say no, and I'd have gone abroad, somewhere hot, because playing in the heat actually helped my knee."
