Liverpool FC are desperately trying to find the right replacement for Jurgen Klopp this summer. Liverpool are linked with multiple managers to take charge for next season. The number one target is former Liverpool player Xabi Alonso. Alonso has been having a great season with Bayer Leverkusen, sitting 1st in the Bundesliga table. After these performances, the competition for Alonso's appointment rose.

Bayern Munich is very interested in appointing Xabi Alonso this summer after convincing results from their current manager, Thomas Tuchel. Bayern is sitting 2nd in the Bundesliga and is losing 1-0 in their round of 16 tie of the Champions League against Lazio. Bayern are willing to move on from Tuchel after the season ends and want to compete with Liverpool for the signature of Alonso as their new head coach. Although Alonso has also played for Bayern Munich in the past, Alonso is reportedly more interested in taking the Liverpool job instead of the Bayern job.

Liverpool may have just secured a favorable point over Bayern Munich for Alonso's signature after current Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp gave the Spanish manager credit for his work with Leverkusen. It almost seemed like approval from the legendary Liverpool manager that the club should appoint him as his replacement at the club. When discussing Alonso, Klopp said, "Xabi Alonso is doing an incredible job. Even if you would have asked me eight weeks ago about Xabi Alonso, I would have gone: oh my God! The next generation is already there and I would say Xabi Alonso is standout in that department. He’s exceptional.”

Jurgen Klopp gives Xabi Alonso's Leverkusen more credit for his performance against Bayern Munich.

Last week in the Bundesliga, Bayer Leverkusen destroyed Bayern Munich 3-0 at home and are five points clear of them at the league table. Leverkusen remains 1st in the Bundesliga with 55 points. Klopp talked about the Leverkusen win and said, "Leverkusen was better than Bayern. Not counter-attack, just... better! That was the real surprise given the short time he [Alonso] was there, with a young team. He [Alonso] has made super signings, exactly what they needed, and that’s really a very special job".
