Liverpool or Bayern? Xabi Alonso confirms where he is coaching next season

Before summer transfer windows, players are mostly talked about when it comes to rumors of joining new clubs for the upcoming season. Before this summer transfer window arrives, the heavy speculation many football fans ask themselves is where Xabi Alonso could be coaching next season. Xabi Alonso is currently coaching Bayer Leverkusen and has performed brilliantly so far. Two of the biggest European clubs were interested in appointing him this summer, Liverpool and Bayern Munich. Alonso played for both Liverpool and Bayern during his career, and the move made sense to join either club. Liverpool will not have Jurgen Klopp next season as the German coach said he needs a break, and Bayern has agreed to part ways with Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season. Both are battling to appoint Alonso before the summer arrives and after rumors that one club will be ahead of the other, Alonso confirms where he will go.

Many reports yesterday suggested that Xabi Alonso was not choosing Liverpool as his next destination, but now newer reports have also reported that he wouldn't be at Bayern Munich either. Xabi Alonso was rumored to stay at Bayer Leverkusen next season, and now the Spanish manager has confirmed his decision. Alonso will continue to be the coach of Bayer Leverkusen next season.

Alonso spoke in a press conference ahead of Leverkusen's Bundesliga game against Hoffenheim. Alonso said, "I had a good meeting with Bayer Leverkusen, and I informed them that I will STAY and continue at the club. After lot of talks about my future, I used the break to reflect and make my decision. This is the place to be for me. My job at Bayer is not over. I want to help the club, help the players to develop, the board is great… it’s all fantastic here. I’m still [a] young coach but I think this is the best decision for my future. I took my time, and I’m sure about that."

Xabi Alonso's thoughts on Liverpool and Bayern Munich

Alonso says he's grateful for Leverkusen and confirmed his decision deadline was this week. Alonso said, "I’m grateful to Bayer and the board, the players, the fans… I feel that this is the best way, to continue together. I have also informed the players, it’s true. My deadline was this week, it’s matter of respect. Now everything is clear.”

When asked about the interest of Liverpool and Bayern Munich, Alonso said, "I’m not gonna comment about Liverpool or Bayern. These are big clubs, and I’ve strong links with them, but I’m in the place where I want to be. It’s not time to decide my future now; I want to develop at Bayer Leverkusen."
