Today seems to be the end of an era between FC Barcelona and Nike. Nike has partnered with Barcelona since 1998, and the club has been reportedly looking for other brands like Puma to sponsor their shirts. The current contract with Nike expires in 2028, but it seems that next season, the club could see different brands sponsoring them. In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta confirms that the club has asked to terminate their contract with Nike and talks about how many days the brand had to compensate them.

Joan Laporta said that the club will terminate its contract with Nike. Laporta said, "We told Nike that based on the violations that were clear to us, we terminated the contract with them. They had 45 days to compensate us, and they did not do that and we informed them of the termination of the contract. They responded to this with precautionary measures that we responded to and now we see the solution to these measures."

FC Barcelona has reportedly been in talks with Puma about sponsoring them next, but now another big company is set to join the race to sponsor the Catalan club. FC Barcelona Collection.com reports that There is talk from the Adidas camp that the German company intends to join the race, and they are planning to propose a long-term partnership with FC Barcelona. Adidas currently sponsors FC Barcelona's rivals, Real Madrid, which would seem odd in La Liga to see. FC Barcelona was also considering creating its own brand to make the shirts in order to generate more income, as it did well in shirt sales last season with Nike but needed to split the share.

Laporta states that Nike improved their offer, but it's not enough

Joan Laporta did mention that Nike has improved the offer for FC Barcelona, but the president believes they deserve more. Laporta said, "Nike have improved their offer, but it's still way below what the market can pay. Barça is the club that sells the most jerseys in the world, and we should have the best contract in the market. It's our responsibility as board members to guarantee that."
