FC Barcelona has identified Hansi Flick and Roberto De Zerbi as the two main candidates to replace Xavi this summer. Barcelona has said to get a coach who has experience in multiple countries. While FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta admires Hansi Flick, the club knows that Flick only ever coached in Germany. Another German coach who could potentially be a candidate for the replacement of Xavi is Thomas Tuchel from Bayern Munich. Tuchel wants to coach next season after his time at Bayern Munich ends this summer.

While FC Barcelona considers Tuchel and Flick, De Zerbi seems like the number one target. Sources close to Barca suggest that Pep Guardiola recommended the Catalan club choose De Zerbi as their next coach since he has seen the Italian's work in the Premier League. De Zerbi also fits what the club is looking for in their next coach.

De Zerbi has experience in more than one league. While he is currently coaching in the Premier League, he also coached in Ukraine with Shakhtar Donetsk. De Zerbi has led Brighton playing great football in the Premier League and led to the club to the Europa League. The club never played in Europe before and Brighton topped their group with teams like Marseille, Ajax, and AEK Athens.

While Barca are intersted in him, De Zerbi would come at a cost. Sport reports that Barcelona's hopes of appointing Roberto de Zerbi in the summer have been complicated by Brighton's refusal to negotiate on the Italian's $16.2m release clause.
