FC Barcelona is rumored to go after Roberto De Zerbi from Brighton and Hove Albion, and Hansi Flick. De Zerbi has a release clause at Brighton worth over $17 million, and this would prevent Barca from appointing him this summer. The Italian coach will have to leave the English club so Barca can appoint him by avoiding paying the release clause. Flick could be the favorite to join the club, but FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta has one priority over appointing Flick or De Zerbi: keeping Xavi for one more year.

Sport reports that Joan Laporta informally asked Xavi to stay for an additional season. If Xavi decides to change his mind and continue, the doors will be open because the club is satisfied with Xavi’s work, and the dressing room is loyal to him; the players are with Xavi until the end. Xavi knows the club well and is aware of the difficulties that Barça is going through on the economic level.

Barca sporting director Deco spoke about the possibility of Xavi staying. Deco said, "We are not talking about our future (coach), we have not made any decision, it is still early. Xavi staying? Currently, this possibility does not exist. If this possibility becomes a reality, we will discuss it at that time."
