After good moments from Burnley in the first half, Liverpool took the lead in the 31st minute. Diogo Jota scored a header from a corner kick cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold. It was an unlucky goal to concede on Burnley's part because Burnley defender Dara O'Shea pushed his keeper, James Trafford, out of the way to catch the ball. Trafford could have gotten to the ball first, but because of the accidental push by his teammate, Jota was in the right place to head the ball into the empty net.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is officially number one for assists by a Premier League defender. Alexander-Arnold has registered 58 Premier League assists. That is more than any defender in Premier League history. Since Boxing Day, Jota has made ten appearances and has 9 goal contributions.

O'Shea makes up for his mistake and scores for Burnley with a great header from a corner. The header goes to the top right corner past Kelleher, who replaced Alisson. Alisson was out of the squad along with Joe Gomez due to illness. O'Shea's goal was the equalizer for Burnley minutes before the halftime whistle.

Luis Diaz scores early in the second half, while Darwin Nunez scores late to give Liverpool the win

Before the second half started, Alexander-Arnold was subbed out of the game and replaced by Harvey Elliot. Elliot would have an impactful second-half performance. After a few lucky rebounds outside the box, the ball falls to Elliot in the box on the right. He crosses a low ball in the box to Luis Diaz, who runs onto the ball with a header past Trafford. After a long VAR check, the goal was given, and Liverpool took the lead again in the 52nd minute.

In the 79th minute, another corner kick led to another goal. The ball falls to Jota, who shoots at Fofana. The rebound falls to Elliot, and he crosses the ball to Darwin Nunez, who scores with a close-range header. This is Elliot’s second assist of the day and Nunez’s 8th goal contribution in 2024 so far.
