FC Barcelona is still in search of the ideal candidate to replace Xavi Hernandez at Barca. Xavi has left the Barca board, thinking of who could become the next manager for the Catalan club. FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta has left the responsibility to sporting director Deco.

Laporta said, "The next manager is on Deco's hands. For now, Xavi is the manager until the end of the season." Many links have recently been made online and in the media. Managers such as Jurgen Klopp and José Mourinho have been linked to the Barca job. Klopp seems almost impossible to the club now because he is determined to commit to a one-year break.

There were also rumors of bringing back old managers like Pep Guardiola, Luis Enrique, and Frank Rijkaard. Laporta has worked with Rijkaard in the past and has reportedly begun talks with the Dutch manager, who hasn’t managed in 11 years. Guardiola and Enrique seem impossible to the Barca board at this time. Enrique did not want to comment on the Barcelona job and is focused on PSG.

Other suggestions for the job have been coaches in La Liga. Girona coach Miguel Angel Sanchez Muñoz has done a fantastic job at his club. Girona are second in the league table after just their second season in the first division after being promoted in 2022. Another manager that was linked was Real Sociedad’s Imanol Alguacil.

Imanol Alguacil wishes to stay at Real Sociedad instead of taking the Barca job

In a press conference today, Alguacil was asked about the Barca job. He ensured that he was perfectly fine at Real Sociedad and thought it was better for him to stay there than in Barca. Alguacil says, “ Xavi is the ideal coach to lead Barcelona. It will be difficult for them to find a coach like Xavi. All my respect. I am at the best club I can be at, super valued, delighted to belong to Real [Sociedad]. I want to continue making history. I know that my contract ends in 2025. I hope to renew it, but I have to earn it."
