FC Barcelona shamed Real Madrid for their controversial 3-2 win against Almeria a few weeks ago. Real Madrid had lots of decisions in their favor that game, which caused suspicion by Barca. Today, Liverpool won against Chelsea 4-1 convincingly at Anfield. Despite the convincing win by Liverpool, Chelsea felt disappointed with the referee's performance due to some decisions in the game. Many Chelsea fans felt 'robbed' of the game because of not having decisions go their way.

Chelsea had a great chance to open the score in the first half, but it wasn't meant to be after a suspicious foul in the box. The controversial call arrived in the 7th minute when Chelsea came close to scoring first. Raheem Sterling dribbles on the left, and as he cuts inside, he passes the ball to Conor Gallagher. Gallagher takes a great touch in the box, but as he tries to shoot, Virgil Van Dijk brings him down. The referee and VAR said there was no penalty after reviewing the play quickly but many asked why they moved on so fast. Van Dijk's leg prevents Gallagher from shooting.
This wasn't Van Dijk's only offense. Two minutes after Nkunku scored for Chelsea, Nkunku went down in the box after a slight kick on his ankle by Van Dijk. It seems like a soft penalty to call, but many Chelsea fans believe it was a foul. Liverpool were awarded a penalty in the first half for a foot by Badiashile on Jota. The referee and the VAR denied a penalty for a second time in the game, and the Chelsea bench was furious.

Mauricio Pochettino was very angry when the second incident in the box was not given a penalty. Pochettino believed that this game had two penalties for Chelsea, but they weren't called. Poch spoke after the game and said, "Of course, when you have the emotion and see in the iPad the action, maybe there should be a penalty. That's the decision of the referee. For us, bad luck. But that doesn't change the feeling that Liverpool were better. It's not a final excuse [penalties]. They deserved to win. They were better than us."
