Some players that have been brought in for this season have been through loan deals. Players like Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo are on a season-long loan at Barca and will leave the club in the summer unless Barca purchases them. Other signings like Robert Lewandowski and Ilkay Gundogan have joined the club as free agents.
With many players out, like Gavi and Alejandro Balde, the squad depth has decreased tremendously, and Xavi is left with few options in his squad. Barca and Xavi could not afford any more injuries as they had a busy schedule ahead. The Champions League Round of 16 against Napoli is less than two weeks away, while the team sits 4th in the La Liga table. Barca was close to making one signing that was for the future.
Barca were close to signing Swedish midfielder Lucas Bergvall. The 18-year-old was heavily linked to a move to Barca for a close 10 million euro fee at the end of the transfer market. Barca would receive bad news as a Premier League club hijacked the move in the latest hours of the transfer window.

Bergvall spoke about the move and said, “ It’s a fantastic feeling to sign for Tottenham and a dream to have the opportunity to play in the Premier League. I have received an incredibly warm reception from the club and feel really welcome.”
