Prior to the start of the 2022 MLS Season, Inter Miami CF needed all the help they could get to break with the losing streak that they’ve had during their first two seasons in the United States top flight, as they still don’t know what it is to make it into the playoffs.

In his first season in MLS, Leo Campana has become an idol that even inspires David Beckham

That’s why they agreed to give Giovani dos Santos a chance of trying out with them, as the Mexican striker could be a great addition if he managed to recover the playing level that he showed during the first couple of seasons he played with LA Galaxy.

On the last year in the MLS, the older of the Dos Santos brothers couldn’t make the difference and slowly lost his role in the starting XI, which ended with the Galaxy parting ways before the 2019 season, making him a free agent for the next six months.

Prior the start of the 2019-20 Liga MX Season, “Gio” agreed to join Club América on a two year deal but given his poor contributions to the performances of the team, Las Águilas decided to not extend his contract once it was over, just as LA Galaxy did, making him a free agent for the second time.

Inter Miami refused to sign him

After six months of inactivity, Gio dos Santos agreed to train with Inter Miami CF in hopes of finding a spot on their roster, given that the Herons needed help in the offense, as Gonzalo Higuaín has not been the striker that they were expecting him to be.

Dos Santos trained a few weeks with the Herons, but after the impressive performances that the newly arrived striker, Leonardo Campana, had for four straight games, David Beckham and company decided to thank Giovani and go their separate ways.

For now, the 32-year-old remains as a free agent and is currently training with the U-20 squad of Las Águilas, his last team, to keep his shape in hopes of finding a new team once the current season is over, as he’s not planning on retiring just yet.

Campana has become the striker that Inter Miami needed

Leonardo Campana joined the Herons for the 2022 MLS Season out of Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers, on a 1-year loan with option to buy. The 21-year-old Ecuadorian striker has become the answer to Phil Neville needs, as he managed to score 5 goals in 4 games, although he left injured the last game that Miami played against New England Revolution.
