When Rodolfo Pizarro joined Miami FC back in February 2020 and left his team half into the season, he hoped that Miami would serve him as a jumping point to move overseas, just a short stop in his career.

Now, with the MLS teams building up their squads, Pizarro wasn’t part of Inter Miami FC plans for the 2022 MLS Season, and with Clausura 2022, the second round of the 2021-22 Liga MX Season, about to start, Inter saw an opportunity of sending him back to Liga MX and opening a roster spot for another international player.

Pizarro will be taking what people could consider a step back in his career as he joins his former team, Monterrey, for a second tenure, this time with Javier Aguirre as Rayados coach. Pizarro flied to Monterrey this Monday to join Rayados’ squad once he clears the medical tests.

Although it was rumored that Chivas was also interested in acquiring the player on a loan from Miami FC, Monterrey had the last call and has already finished negotiations with David Beckham’s team.

It’s worth noting that Rodolfo hasn’t played in over two months now, as the MLS season finished in November, so he’ll have to join his teammates if he wants to catch up with them and being consider for the starting XI soon enough.

Alongside Luis Romo, who arrived from Cruz Azul during the offseason as part of a trade that involved Charly Rodríguez transfer to La Máquna, Pizarro is the only other incorporation the Rayados’ squad for Clausura 2022.

Monterrey will start its journey in 2022 on January 8, in a match against Querétaro. Los Gallos Blancos will visit La Sultana del Norte and Estadio BBVA, Rayados home. They’ll play round two and three against Necaxa and Cruz Azul, respectively, before going to United Arab Emirates in February, where they’ll dispute the FIFA Club World Cup.

His first tenure with Monterrey

Rodolfo Pizarro played for Rayados from 2018 to 2020, when he moved to Miami. During the two years he played for Monterrey, Pizarro won a Liga MX and the CONCACAF Champions League in 2019.  He also was part of the team that ended third in the 2019 FIFA Club World Cup.

During that span of time, Pizarro played 64 games for Monterrey, in which he was able to score 9 goals and assist on six occasions, the lowest amount of goals and assistances out of the three Liga MX team he’s played for.

With Chivas he had the best performance of his career, according to the statistics, as Pizarro played six less games than with Monterrey and he was able to score 15 goals and assist 10 times.

Pizarro has experience playing both Liga MX and FIFA Club World Cup, as he’s been champion three times in Liga MX, each one of them with different teams –Pachuca, Chivas and Monterrey–, as well as winning CONCACAF Champions League with both Chivas and Monterrey, although he only played in the 2019 Club World Cup, as he was transferred to Monterrey prior the 2018 edition.

He couldn’t become a regular for Inter Miami

After joining Miami FC for a transfer worth of $12 million in February 2020, Pizarro couldn’t find the regularity he was hoping to achieve in order to win visibility to European teams.

Pizarro played 47 games during the two seasons he was a Miami player, 43 of them during regular season and starting on 35. He only managed to score seven goals and assist nine times during his stint with the team from Florida.
