Among the many players of the Mexican national team that attracts attention, Raul Jimenez, the Wolves striker, stands out and everyone asks: why does the player wear a headband?

They were rivals in Portugal and now that Raúl Jiménez would leave Wolves, they could be teammates

The answer is very simple, however, it involves a very complicated moment in the player's life that shook him, his family, and his fans. A moment that changed his life forever.

The reason why Raúl Jiménez wears a headband

It all started in a match that Wolverhampton Wanderers FC played against Arsenal on November 29, 2020. The match was going peacefully until tragedy struck: a corner kick in the Wolves' area.

In that corner kick, David Luiz and Raúl Jiménez disputed a divided ball and both tried to head the ball, but unfortunately most of the impact was absorbed by both players, who ended up on the ground after the brutal headbutt they both gave each other.

The impact was such that the match had to be stopped and although David Luiz took part in the blow, it was Jiménez who suffered most of the force of the impact and was left unconscious on the ground.

Medical assistance arrived and the force of the impact and the image of the Mexican player on the ground was so strong that some of Raul's teammates wondered if the player had died.

Even Wolverhampton physiotherapist Ollie Leaper stated in a video: "We didn't know if we would see him again".

The player's first medical report made by doctors on the pitch highlighted that Jimenez had suffered a skull fracture, a diagnosis that was later confirmed by the evaluation the player underwent.

The player ended up with a 15-centimeter scar on his head, and after more than 10 minutes of lying on the ground and unconscious, Jimenez was taken to the hospital, requiring oxygen assistance.

Diagnosis and recovery

With a fractured skull, everyone thought this was the end of the Mexican striker's career, but with therapy the player was able to return to the field after 79 days of inactivity, missing 17 games with Wolves

But the player was able to return to the courts little by little, although now he would have to do it with something he did not expect: a protective band for his head, which is custom-made for the Mexican player.

The band serves to protect the head from another blow that could further damage the area and should be made of a soft elastic fabric with cotton cushions that can function as shock absorbers for contact with an external agent (ball or another player).

In this way, the player was able to recover his professional career and his life, being one of the scorers of the Wolves and, of course, of the Mexican National Team. Anyway, the episode lived by the player was so strong that the English team made a documentary called Code Red, in which the whole terrible experience is narrated.
