Mexico National Team hasn’t been able to recover the level that they had prior the CONCACAF Nations League, as they only lost one game on the first two years of Gerardo “Tata” Martino as coach of El Tri, but since then, they haven’t been able to win against a rival with similar conditions.

This player would no longer go to the World Cup after his bad game against Uruguay

Although it seemed like they were leaving behind the poor level showed during the CONCACAF Qualifiers, where they couldn’t beat USMNT and Canada MNT, the only two rivals of the confederation that were an actual challenge, Uruguay revealed that El Tri hasn’t progressed since then.

La Celeste beat 3-0 El Tri in a game that the Aztec squad was never able to get close to Sergio Rochet, while Edinson Cavani took advantage of the few chances that he got and even scored a ‘Golazo’ from outside the box that Alfredo Talavera couldn’t stop.

Carlos Vela, willing to return under two conditions

The poor performances of El Tri players made evident the lack of a playmaker, as Martino hasn’t found that player that can make a difference when the team is not connecting and can’t create collective danger to their rivals.

The playmaker that could fill that void in El Tri is Carlos Vela, who hasn’t closed the doors to the Mexican national team, as he knows that sooner or later, they will need to ask him to return, something that he’s willing to do under two conditions.

The first one is to suppress the strict discipline rules that Martino has imposed at El Tri’s camp, especially the one that doesn’t allow the families of the players to visit them. The second condition is to call up a younger roster, as several of the players that Martino starts regularly are far from the level needed to play for a national team.
