Mexico National Team faced the toughest game of the year so far on Thursday night, when the clashed against Uruguay on the pitch of Phoenix University Stadium, a game that even if it was closed on the midfield, it was La Celeste who took advantage of their offensive options.
The Aztec squad was able to hold Uruguay for most of the first half, but on a corner kick, the specialty of Los Charrúas, Alfredo Talavera left the ball free in the goal box and Matías Vecino only had to push the ball to the bottom of the net.
After that, El Tri tried to become more offensive, but the lack of opportunities that the midfielders and wingers gave to Raúl Jiménez, forced him to leave the box looking for the ball, cutting down his options of facing Sergio Rochet.
The lack of a striker that can score consistently has made Gerardo “Tata” Martino look for other options outside the usual forwards that he calls, and even if he is giving Santiago Giménez more chances, he still has doubts of calling him.
But the striker he’s been looking for could arrive from MLS, as Cade Cowell has confirmed that, after getting formed in the US Youth National Team, he’s ready to represent Mexico, not only because he wants to return to his roots, but also because he has more options of playing in El Tri.
The 18-year-old forward currently plays for San José Earthquakes, but according to reports from Jóvenes Futbolistas MX, he’s been followed closely by a few Serie A teams, and given that he already has experience playing in a top flight, he’s just waiting for Martino to give him the chance of debuting with El Tri.
