The 2021-22 Premier League season ended for Wolverhampton Wanderers with a 3-1 defeat against Liverpool on their visit to Anfield, a perfect example of what was the season for Wolves, who lost the possibility of playing a European tournament next year given that they couldn’t win any of their last five games.

Wolves will sell him, and Raúl Jiménez could play a European tournament next season

Wolves entered the last month of the season with aspirations of playing UEFA Europa League, but finished the soccer year standing 10, below Leicester City and Brighton Hove & Albion, who didn’t lose a single game of the last five that they played.

The lack of an international competition will affect next season’s budget, as they will have to lower the salary of the roster, as well as parting ways with some of the current players, among which Raúl Jiménez is considered, as his performance diminished from the numbers he was used to put.

He was valued in over $100 million but now Wolves accept way less than that

The 31-year-old Mexican striker joined Wolves back in 2018, when they had recently been promoted to Premier League. Given the outstanding performances that he had, teams like Bayern Munich were interested in signing him, but the $100 million that Wolves were asking for him prevented his departure.

Now that he hasn’t been able to adapt since returning from the head injury that kept him sidelined for nine months, his price has significantly dropped, as Wolves are willing to accept as little as $18 million for him, according to reports from TalkSport.

Jiménez still has the chance of remaining at Molineux to fulfill his contract, which expires in 2024, but it will come with a reduction of $500,000 per season. Although on a World Cup year, the option of playing where he already knows how things work seems the best option for him.
