After Gerardo “Tata” Martino published the roster that Mexico National Team will have for the upcoming FIFA match window, the absence of Santos Laguna goalkeeper Carlos Acevedo was one of the most notorious one, along Marcelo Flores.

Acevedo currently is one of the best Mexican goalkeepers available in Liga MX and his absence from Mexico National Team can´t be understood. Not even after Jonathan Orozco, who is one of the four goalkeepers in the current roster, said he thinks Acevedo is the future goalkeeper of El Tri.

But his hypothetical call to El Tri could jeopardize the starting role of Guillermo Ochoa, who is not only “Tata” Martino’s favorite, as he helps him control the team form within, but also has been boosted and protected by Televisa since the start of his career.

Carlos Acevedo’s numbers with Santos Laguna

Although Acevedo debuted with Santos back in 2016, he became the starting goalkeeper for Clausura 2020. So far, he’s played a total of 91 games with Los Laguneros, and he’s managed to score 33 clean sheets, while receiving 90 goals.
