After a disappointing 2021 for Mexico National Team, where they lost the first place in CONCACAF Qualifiers after bakc-to-back losses against USMNT and Canada National Team, and three consecutive losses against the Stars and Stripes, Gerardo “Tata” Martino is facing a difficult 2022.

But this Mexican coach already know what he would do if he was in Martino’s position. First of all, he would call Carlos Vela back, as he’s one of the most prolific players Mexico currently has. And the second decision he would make is stop calling Guillermo Ochoa to El Tri.
Javier Aguirre has already been Mexico National Team coach on two times, during 2002 World Cup in Korea-Japan and for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. He wouldn’t discard going back for a third stint, where he could sit Memo Ochoa, something he already did in 2010, as he thinks he’s imposed by El Tri sponsors.

Although he’s still currently under contract with Monterrey for the remainder of 2022 and with the possibility of a 1-year extension, Aguirre’s salary is set to be $3.9 million per year, something that FMF would have to surpass.
