Mexico National Team Will receive USMNT on March 24 in Estadio Azteca in a game that will define the future of CONCACAF standings, as the victory will grant access to the 2022 FIFA World Cup to the winner team and might send the losing team to the playoffs.

El Tri will close their participation in the CONCACAF Qualifiers visiting Honduras on March 27 in Estadio Nacional, and then receiving El Salvador in Estadio Azteca on March 30, two games in which the Aztec squad is the favorite to win them.

But Gerardo “Tata” Martino still hasn’t figured out who are the strikers that can help El Tri to achieve their goal, as the players he usually calls, Rogelio Funes Mori and Henry Martín, clearly are not the answer for his needs.

Aside from Raúl Jiménez, who is the best striker that the Aztec squad currently have, Martino has no other options from what he’s showed since 2021. And although there’s some players in Liga MX raising their hand, like Santiago Giménez or even José Juan Macías, there’s strikers outside Mexico that have been asking for a chance for a while.

Who are the players that could be the next striker of El Tri?

The obvious answer is Javier “Chicharito” Hernández, who is on a scoring streak with LA Galaxy, as he’s scored two goals in three games in the 2022 MLS Season and 17 last season, but Gerardo Martino hasn’t called him to a Mexico National Team game since 2019.

For now, it’s clear that only a miracle will make “Chicharito” return to El Tri, but instead of him, there’s a player in the Uruguayan League that has been asking for an opportunity for a while now, as Diego Abreu has said in the past that he wants to play for El Tri.

Who is Diego Abreu?

The 18-year-old forward has scored over 100 goals in the academy categories of the Uruguayan soccer but hasn’t been able to debut in the top division because of an injury that currently has him out of the pitches.

He has the Italian, Uruguayan and Mexican citizenships, and even if he’s played for both Uruguay and Mexico academy teams, he’s said that playing for El Tri will be the most beneficial for his professional career, given that he can have more opportunities to shine.
