Gerardo Martino's management of the Mexican national soccer team has been anything but discreet and it has not been so much because of something that happens off the field, but rather because of the decisions that the coach of El Tri has made at the time of putting together the call-ups for the different commitments that his team has to face.
Gerardo Martino refuses to call him up but he’s ready to play in Europe
And so far, among all the criticisms that have been made to Martino, one that has caught the attention has been the fact that the coach of El Tri has not called up players from Atlas, a club that has just been crowned champion of the Liga MX for the second consecutive time, so many people do not understand how it is possible that Martino does not call up any of his players and instead, calls up several players from Monterrey, a club that had a terrible tournament.
And it was just at the moment when Martino's last call-up was announced, in which there were no players from Atlas but several from Monterrey, that many fans of El Tri exploded with anger as they cannot understand how a club that was eliminated by a club like Atletico San Luis could have so many of its players in the national team. It should be remembered that Monterrey's squad is much more expensive than that of San Luis, so there is plenty of evidence that Los Rayados are not going through their best moment.
In an interview with the Mexican press, Gerardo Martino explained that he did not call up Atlas players because his structure has many foreigners and there cannot be a massive call up of players who have not been on the Mexican national team before, so perhaps the coach of El Tri forgot that Atlas has been not one, but two consecutive tournaments as the best team in Liga MX.
The coach's specific words were: "In the case of Atlas, they have many foreigners in their structure and there cannot be a massive call-up of players who were not in the team before because it would be like saying that the previous three and a half years were useless". Now it remains to be seen if the explanation given by the Mexican national soccer team's coach satisfies the fans of El Tri, or if, on the contrary, the criticism will continue.
The reason Vela resigned from the Mexican national team could be the same reason Lozano is leaving
