Mexico National Team is ready to face their second friendly game of the summer against Uruguay on Thursday night, after starting on the right foot on Saturday night by beating Nigeria 2-1 with goals from Santiago Giménez and William Troost-Ekong in own goal.
Gerardo Martino finally understood and is ready to start a locker room cleanout before Qatar 2022
Although Giménez was able to score last game, Gerardo “Tata” Martino is still doubting on calling him even if El Tri still hasn’t found a striker that can score consistently, as neither Henry Martín nor Rogelio Funes Mori have contributed to the score in a regular basis.
But at least for now, it seems like the strikers that will go to Qatar are Raúl Jiménez as the starter, Santiago Giménez as the second striker and Henry Martín as the last one, although the call-up of Martín is closing the doors to a young forward that is ready to play in Europe.
Even with the lack of strikers that can score regularly, Martino hasn’t given the chance to young players to prove themselves with the senior squad, as he considers that they don’t have enough experience to be part of the national team.
One of those players is Fidel Ambríz, who currently is playing with the U-21 squad in the Tournoi Maurice Revello, and given his outstanding performances, teams from Portuguese Primeira Liga are already inquiring about his arrival over the summer.
The 19-year-old Mexican currently plays for Liga MX side Club León, where he debuted back in 2019 and has become a regular in the lineup of the Panzas Verdes. His current market value is set at $1.7 million and even the owner of León knows that it looks difficult that he gets to wear their colors again.
