Héctor Herrera once was the best midfielder Mexico National Team had, given the vision of the pitch and leadership he had every time he played a game, whether it was for El Tri or for his club. That even helped him to become FC Porto captain in his last seasons in Primeira Liga.

But after he decided to leave the Dragões Azuis after the 2018-19 season and join Atlético Madrid as a free agent, his shape has slowly been diminished as Diego “Cholo” Simeone has decided to bench him, especially in the current season.

Even if Herrera has only played in 10 of the 21 games Atleti has disputed in La Liga, Martino keeps calling him no matter what, not even after performances as the ones he had on the last FIFA match window, where he stopped running and become a liability for El Tri’s defense.

Why did he forget to run when plays for El Tri?

According to reports, players like Herrera are cataloged as a AAA player, a group conformed by the most renowned players, which allows him to earn up to $250,000 for every TV spot or announcement in which he appears. That would explain why he keeps accepting the calls, as he manages to earn big sums of money even if its in detriment of El Tri’s results.
