Although Mexico National Team was able to beat Panama for the last game of the World Cup Qualifiers match window and earned 7 out of 9 possible points as a result of 2 victories and one draw, the way El Tri players performs during the matches is disheartening, to say the least.

Gerardo “Tata” Martino has made clear that he doesn’t like to play with youngsters, as they don’t have the experience needed to face high-pressured games like the ones El Tri disputed this FIFA match window, but he also has vetoed players that could come in hand for exactly those matches.

Carlos Vela is one of those players who Martino has refused to call since his arrival, which shows that he’s not really interested in the best available players but rather than calling just his favorites, even if they are out of shape or don’t have playing time with their clubs.

 

What does Carlos Vela ask to return to El Tri?

Carlos Vela has previously said that he doesn’t close the door to an eventual call to El Tri, as he hasn’t played for Mexico National Team since the 2018 World Cup. The one thing that Vela asks in order to return is to allow family visits to El Tri camp, something Martino has forbidden as he thinks players lose their focus if it’s allowed.
