Since arriving at Europe, Jesús Manuel “Tecatito” Corona has become one of the best Mexican players, especially during his stint in Primeira Liga side Porto FC, where he even became captain of the team and was named MVP of the Portuguese league in the 2019-20 season.

Even if his last season in Porto his performances diminished, his talent was enough to make him a threat to any rivals, something that Sevilla FC perfectly knew when they decided to sign him during the winter transfer window of the current season.

Given that “Tecatito” was on the final months of his contract with Porto, added to the poor performances that he had in the first half of the season, Sevilla were able to acquire him for less than a quarter of his market value, making him the steal of the season.

It seemed like everything that Corona needed to return to his best shape was a fresh start, as he’s recovered from the bad streak he had at Porto and has started his scoring streak with a brace against Levante UD, as well as assisted on four occasions.

Barcelona could have signed him for $5 million

Jesús Manuel Corona signed until 2025 with the Blanquirrojos, a deal that now seems like a bargain for Sevilla, as he’s become the protagonist that they needed, although they weren’t expecting to be him instead of Anthony Martial, who will leave at the end of the season.

But before “Tecatito” Corona arrived at Europe, FC Barcelona was interested in acquiring him when he was still part of CF Monterrey, but they felt like the $5 million that Rayados were asking back then. Instead, Eredivisie side Twente FC was the team that decided to invest in him.

Since then, his market value increased up to $33 million when he was in Porto, back in 2020, and even if it decreased to the point of arriving to Sevilla for less than $10 million, he now has revalued up to $20 million.

Can Barcelona look for their addition?

The Blaugranas are still waiting for Ousmane Dembélé’s decision to extend his contract or part ways with them once the 2021-22 season is over. If the French winger ends up leaving, they will have to look for a substitute and Corona is one of their top options.
