Gerardo Martino keeps refusing to give Marcelo Flores a chance in Mexico National Team

El Tri will face USMNT on March 24 on what will be the toughest match of both the FIFA match window and the entire Qualifiers, as it will decide who is going to arrive in Qatar 2022 as the second and third place of CONCACAF.

Gerardo “Tata” Martino knows of the importance of this game, although the Aztec squad will also have to win the matches against Honduras and El Salvador to guarantee their assistance to the World Cup, but El Tri will arrive as the favorite to the last two games.

That’s why Martino finally understood that he needed to stop calling some of the worst players El Tri has had in recent games and give the chance to new faces to prove why they’re having an outstanding season in Liga MX.

Who are the players that Martino left out from past calls?

The most notable absence on the list that Martino presented is Rogelio Funes Mori, who will miss the last three games of the Qualifiers due to an injury, although the Argentine coach was doubting to call him given his poor performances.

Luis “Chaka” Rodríguez is another player that Martino was used to call, but he finally realized that the Tigres defender had become a liability for the Aztec squad instead of an actual asset, as he even has lost his regular spot in Los Felinos.

Alongside Rodríguez, the Argentine coach also left out Julio César “Cata” Domínguez, who proved on the last CONCACAF Qualifiers match window that he’s far from having the level needed to wear El Tri colors, although he’s been essential for Cruz Azul in Liga MX.

Finally, Martino also decided to leave Orbelín Pineda out of the last call, in what it seems more like a punishment for leaving Liga MX and trying to find a place in Europe, even if he’s known for giving priority to the players that are in Europe, even if they haven’t found the regularity they wished to have, like Diego Lainez.

Who are the new names that are part of El Tri?

Gerardo Martino showed that he’s aware of the good level that some players have showed in Liga MX, which is why he will use the upcoming match window to give players like Jesús Angulo from Tigres, Israel Reyes from Club Puebla and Santiago Giménez from Cruz Azul.
