The Mexican national team will face Guatemala on Wednesday night in Camping World Stadium, in Orlando, Florida, with a roster full of young players who don’t usually have the chance of wearing El Tri colors with the first team.

Given that the game will be played outside of a FIFA match window, Gerardo “Tata” Martino couldn’t have the usual players on his team, but he will use the game to observe different players, as he hasn’t defined the entire roster.
One of the players that has impressed the most in recent months is Marcelo Flores, who earned his second call-up to the senior squad of El Tri, as he’s a usual with the U-20 and he already had his first cap in December, against Chile.
Flores is having a breakout season with Arsenal U-23, where he’s become an essential player even if he’s playing two categories above his age, something that has made Mikel Arteta aware of his talent and has already called him to be part of a Premier League game.
Martino isn’t sure of taking him to Qatar
Flores, who has played for El Tri in different academy categories, can also represent Canada in the World Cup, as he was born there, although so far he’s inclined to play for Mexico if both national teams were to call him, as he said during an interview.
Even if he’s one of the most talented players that El Tri currently has, Gerardo Martino is not sure of taking him to Qatar 2022, opening the door to Canada to steal him, as they’ve already offered him being part of the senior team that will play in the World Cup.
Martino even said that Flores shouldn’t be conditioning his presence in a national team just because of the possibilities he has of playing or not in the World Cup with them, something that tells that he’s not fully sold with the 18-year-old midfielder.
A player can convince him to stay in El Tri
But even if Flores still hasn’t chosen one team to play for, the good chemistry that exists in El Tri’s locker room could play a major role in his decision of playing for Mexico, especially thanks to Santiago Giménez, who has a good relationship with him as they’ve played together since the academy teams and is trying to convince him to stay in El Tri despite Martino’s words.
