The coach of the Mexican national team, Gerardo Tata Martino, commented that "it is not logical" that the decision of Marcelo Flores, on whether he will play for Mexico or Canada, is subject to which national team will take him to the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

"In other words, he has not defined it. That is not good, neither is the speculation that he will play for the national team that will take him to the World Cup. First, he must consolidate, be clear about which national team he will play for, and not speculate that he will play for a national team that will take him to the World Cup.”

“It is difficult to say what the possibilities are for him, what does not seem logical to me is that his decision is subject to which national team guarantees him a World Cup", said Gerardo Tata Martino, coach of the Mexican national team.

What did Marcelo say?

"Canada can also offer it to me. Canada wants me, but I think yes, if Mexico calls me to the World Cup, I think I want to be there".

He has accepted Mexico's call-ups and likes playing here because his love for soccer was born from the Mexican side of his family: "My father is Mexican and all the family on my father's side are Mexican. They are very passionate about soccer, they love soccer, and they passed that love on to me when I was little. It happened to me to play for Mexico, also for them, because it's a lot of pride to play for them and represent Mexico".

His father does not pressure him to go with Mexico. The deliberation must be his own and, for the moment, he does not have his position 100% defined: "He (his father) doesn't tell me much. He tells me wherever I want. Right now I don't know, the truth is, I'm thinking and preparing for when I'm going to make the decision".
