But the fact that it took them the 12 games of the Qualifiers to know if they would have direct passage to Qatar 2022 or would have to wait until June to face the playoffs didn’t sit well with all the players, especially the ones that want a new coach in El Tri.

According to reports, FMF and Liga MX owners will vote for Gerardo “Tata” Martino’s continuity in the next few weeks, as some of them believe that the Argentine coach is not suited to help the Aztec squad reach the fifth game.

It was evident during the game that at least one player in El Tri’s starting XI feels the same way as the executives of Mexican soccer, as he didn’t celebrate with Martino and his teammates the opening goal of the match.

Who is the player that wants “Tata” out?

After the first goal that Antuna scored in the year for the Mexican national team, a sense of relief was noticeable in all the players, as they run to El Tri’s bench to celebrate with Gerardo Martino the fact that they ensured the World cup bound.

But Guillermo Ochoa, who is usually a reserved person, decided to stay on his box, away from the effervescent celebration that was happening a few feet away from him, confirming that in El Tri’s camp there’s a division thanks to the recent performances of the squad.

Ochoa is one of the players in the Aztec squad that is dissatisfied with some of the players that Martino has started to call to finally give El Tri a new face and start the generational change that is needed to have a worthy participation in Qatar, which is why he would rather have a different coach in Mexico’s dugout.

Will Martino arrive in Qatar with El Tri?

The victory against El Salvador cleared some of the questions that FMF and Liga MX owners had about the work he’s been doing, which will agree to maintain him in El Tri until Qatar, although they will meet with the Argentine coach to establish new goals to be achieved in the World Cup.
