Mexico National Team has seven months to find a way of improving the poor performances they had during the CONCACAF Qualifiers, as the level that El Tri showed on the road to Qatar 2022 won’t be enough to compete against Poland and Argentina.

Mexico National Team already knows who is going to replace Gerardo Martino

Gerardo “Tata” Martino and the Mexican Football Federation are aware of this and already started planning how to make the Aztec squad return to the way they used to play during the first two years of Martino’s stint, when they only lost one game.

FMF has agreed to five friendly games from April to August in which El Tri will face teams with similar conditions to the ones that Argentina and Saudi Arabia have, as they will face Uruguay, Ecuador, and Paraguay, as well as Nigeria.

But even if they have booked several games, Martino also knows that he needs to make some changes in the roster, as some of the players that he usually calls haven’t helped to improve the production of the Aztec squad.

Carlos Vela wants to play against Messi

One of the players that Martino is seriously considering calling for the remainder of the 2022 cycle, including the World Cup, is Carlos Vela, who hasn’t played for the Mexican national team since they were eliminated by Brazil in the round of 16 of Russia 2018.

His addition to the Aztec squad has to do with the fact that the current strikers in El Tri’s roster haven’t been able to score consistently, something that Vela has done throughout the five seasons he’s played for Los Angeles FC.

But in order for him to return, Vela has requested only one thing, that Gerardo Martino softens his discipline measures, especially the ones regarding the presence of the players’ families on the hotel where El Tri stays, as he likes to be around his family.

Carlos Vela’s numbers since 2018

“El Bombardero” joined LAFC as the first player in their history and currently is playing his fifth season wearing the Black & Gold colors. So far, Vela has played a total of 106 games with LAFC, scoring 71 goals and assisting on 31 occasions.
