Cristiano Ronaldo arrived at Old Trafford with the objective of helping Manchester United to return to the top spots of Premier League after losing their protagonist role thanks to the improvements of Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea, among others.

But after being eliminated from Champions League by Atlético Madrid and 20 points away from the Premier League leaders, neither Ronaldo nor The Red Devils are happy with how the season has developed for them.

With nine games left on the schedule, Manchester United will try to finish in the top 4 of the English top flight to ensure a place in the Champions league for the 2022-23 season, the only thing that will save this season from being a disaster.

In Manchester are aware that things can’t remain the same for next season, which is why they already signed a new coach to take over the team over the summer, Erik ten Hag, who currently is coaching Eredivisie side Ajax.

Who is the Mexican that can play with CR7?

One of the things that the Dutch coach will implement in Manchester United as soon as he arrives will be a team that is based in younger players, something he’s done for a while with Ajax and that has worked for him, as they’ve won two Eredivisie titles since he arrived in 2017.

But by doing it in Manchester United one of the players that will be sacrificed is Paul Pogba, who has been involved in several scandals regarding his continuity in Manchester. Instead of Pogba, Ten Hag will request the addition of the Mexican defensive midfielder Edson Álvarez.

Álvarez has been linked to several Premier League teams in the past couple of transfer windows but given that Erik ten Hag knows him very well from Ajax, he’d be one of the first requests that the Dutch coach will have before the next season starts.

What’s Álvarez’s market value?

The 24-year-old defensive midfielder arrived in 2019 to Ajax out of Liga MX side Club América for a $16.5 million transfer fee. Since then, his market value has increased exponentially, and given that he’s under contract until 2025, Manchester United will have to pay at least $22 million to acquire him.
