Hirving “Chucky” Lozano keeps impressing in Europe even after five years of arriving in Eredivisie side PSV Eindhoven, and his next move can arrive over the summer, after three seasons playing with Serie A side Napoli, club that he joined in 2019.

Even if he’s under contract with the Azzurri until 2024, the 26-year-old right-winger is on the best moment of his career which could mean looking for a bigger challenge in order to improve not only his current market but also his professional ceiling.

He knows that if he stays, he could become Napoli’s next idol, which includes Diego Armando Maradona and Lorenzo Insigne, as the latter will leave the Azzurri over the summer to join MLS side Toronto FC, but even if he is comfortable now, he has stated in the past that he’d leave Napoli if an offer from a bigger club arrives.

Atlético Madrid might be that club, as they were left behind in the fight for La Liga title this season after winning the Spanish top flight last season, which is why they’re already planning improving their roster to face the 2022-23 season with a renewed roster.

What are they offering for Lozano?

Diego “Cholo” Simeone knows that’ he needs to get younger players than the ones that will leave at the end of the season, like Héctor Herrera or Luis Suárez, and Lozano is the perfect replacement for the Uruguayan striker, as even if they don’t play the same position, he’ll create the danger that Suárez currently does.

The main problem in the negotiations will be agreeing on a transfer price, especially since Atlético won’t receive any money for the departures of Herrera and Suárez, as they will leave as free agents, which is why they already started negotiating with Napoli.

According to reports, the first offer that Atlético presented was for $22 million, less than half of Napoli’s asking price, which is of $50 million, a figure similar to what they paid for the Mexico international three seasons ago.

Will Lozano arrive in Atlético?

There’s still a long way to determine if “Chucky” will become the third Mexican that plays under “Cholo” Simeone for Los Colchoneros, but what makes it more attractive for him is the salary they offered, as they are willing to pay him $6 million per season, $1.5 million more than what he’s earning now.
