According to what has been informed by the head coach of the Mexican national soccer team, he will not travel to Honduras due to health problems, specifically, problems in his right eye.

It is worth remembering that Gerardo Martino underwent surgery for a detached retina, and it seems that the procedure was not completely successful and that is the reason for his absence. 

This would not be the first time that the Argentinean coach has not traveled with the Mexican National Team to an engagement, as the same happened with the visits that El Tri had to make to Panama and Costa Rica. 

In this situation, Jorge Theiler (his assistant), had to be on the bench of the Tricolor team for the matches against Costa Rica and Panama. It should be recalled that in September 2021, Tata was only present in two qualifying matches, as he suffered this retinal detachment.  

"It is still not something I can confirm, there is nothing I can say," said the coach about this problem in the press conference after the scoreless draw with the USMNT at the Azteca Stadium. 

What kind of match will Honduras give to the Mexican National Soccer Team?

According to the observations of Raúl "El Potro" Gutiérrez, who has coached Real España of Honduras, the Hondurans will give El Tri a tough battle.

"Complicated because when teams are desperate for results they are going to find a hold on any side and the Mexican National Team at this moment is going to be that little lifesaver, then I think they are going to try to take advantage of this opportunity and I think it is in Mexico's hands that this is not the case. He also pointed out that he continues to be missed since it has been a long time since the Mexican team has had a player who is a goal scorer, and that this has been sorely lacking in the Mexican squad.
