The fact that Gerardo “Tata” Martino calls Jorge Sánchez for every single game that Mexico National Team plays is something that people still question but leaving out of the roster a player like Alan Mozo to give him that place to Sánchez is incomprehensible.

Johan Vásquez became the starter for El Tri and the Mexican defense's mistakes were evident

It’s no lie to say that Alan Mozo has become one of, if not the best Mexican right-back in Liga MX, as he’s established as an essential player for Andrés Lillini in Pumas UNAM, as he not only knows how to defend, but every time he goes to the offense, he’s one of Pumas biggest threats.

On the other side of the coin, Sánchez hasn’t been able to establish in Club América with the same consistency than Mozo in Pumas, as he’s played just two-thirds of the minutes of Clausura 2022, although that doesn’t seem to matter for Martino, as Sánchez has become the starting right-back.

Is Sánchez imposed in Martino’s roster?

On social media, one of the main narratives as for why Sánchez is part of El Tri even if he’s had irregular performances both with Las Águilas and El Tri, has to do with the fact that he plays for Club América, owned by Televisa, who still calls the shots inside the Mexican national team.

And even if that might be true, there’s another reason why Martino prefers to keep Mozo out of El Tri, as he has established a strict discipline that doesn’t sit well with Mozo’s background, given that the problems outside of the pitch cut short his process in the Mexico academy teams.

What did Alan Mozo do?

Reports suggest that the 24-year-old right-back has a short fuse, which is why he was often involved in fights and discussions, including one with Jaime Lozano when the Mexican coach told him that he was not going to be part of the roster that played in the 2022 Tokyo Olympics.
