Gerardo Martino already knows which players he’s taking to Qatar 2022

After the first two years in “Tata” Martino’s stint in El Tri’s dugout, where the Aztec squad lost just one game, the current debacle in which Mexico National Team seems to be started when they couldn’t beat USMNT in the final of the CONCACAF Nations Cup.

It didn’t stop there, as just one month later, El Tri faced USMNT once again, this time on the final of the Gold Cup, where the Aztecs lost their second straight final against the Bars and Stripes, with a late goal of Miles Robinson, who prevented the game from reaching the penalty shoot-out.

The last time Mexico National Team had to face the Bars and Stripes was on November last year, when El Tri had to visit Cincinnati FC’s new stadium for the CONCACAF Qualifiers, where they couldn’t score and fell by a dos a cero score. Now, the challenge will be receiving USMNT in Estadio Azteca on March 24, where a fourth straight defeat won’t be tolerated.

Will Gerardo Martino leave El Tri if they lose?

After the last game against USMNT and the later defeat in Edmonton against Canada MNT, Martino allegedly presented his resignation letter, although he was backed up by the players. Since then, El Tri is unbeaten, as they’ve won two games and tied the same number of matches.

But FMF won’t stand another defeat against USMNT, not only because it’s the biggest rival in the Confederation, but also because it could mean that El Tri won’t have direct access to Qatar 2022 and might have to face a playoff game before knowing if they’ll play the World Cup.

Who can replace him in Mexico National Team?

According to reports, Yon de Luisa and Alejandro Irarragorri are already negotiating the arrival of Atlas coach Diego Cocca, given that he understands the needs of the Mexican player and has boosted the careers of academy team players, meaning that he’ll give the chance to young players to be part of El Tri.
