Mexico National Team has yet to play the last CONCACAF Qualifiers match window to know if they’ll have a ticket to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, as they currently stand third in the Confederation and a defeat against USMNT could jeopardize their arrival in Qatar 2022.

El Tri will receive the Bars and Stripes in Estadio Azteca on March 24, in a game that will define the classification table, as both National Teams are tied with the same number of points and only the score difference is in favor of USMNT.

After that game, the Aztec squad will travel to Honduras, where they’ll face a Catracho squad in Estadio Olímpico Metropolitano on March 27, in a stadium that historically has been complicated for the Mexicans, although for the current World Cup cycle Honduras is standing at the bottom of the table.

Finally, Mexico National Team will close their participation in CONCACAF Qualifiers in Estadio Azteca, on March 30, when they receive El Salvador MNT, on a game that could be definitive for the Salvadorians if the combination of results is right for them, as they can only aspire to access the playoffs.

Which players does Martino have in his squad for Qatar?

If El Tri manages to earn their ticket to access directly the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Gerardo “Tata” Martino already knows that Guillermo Ochoa will be his starting goalkeeper. Other players that “Tata” considers as immovable from his scheme are Andrés Guardado and Héctor Herrera, who are still a coin in the air, as they can be the leaders El Tri needs or a liability, depending on how their shape is in November.

According to reports, Martino also knows that Raúl Jiménez and Rogelio Funes Mori will be his strikers in Qatar 2022, even though Funes Mori has been criticized for his lack of aim, not only with El Tri but also in Monterrey. It’s yet to be seen who the third forward will be, as Henry Martín hasn’t convinced and Santiago Giménez and even Julio Furch are on the mix to fill that spot.

The only places where Martino hasn’t decided the players that will be part of the squad are on the defense and midfield -outside of Herrera and Guardado-, as either there’s a lot of possible players that fits his needs or the ones that he has called haven’t been up to standards, especially in defense.
