Although things are not going well in Club América in Clausura 2022, as they currently stand 16 with only 4 points after six rounds, it’s true that they still are one of the biggest Liga MX teams, and that their heritage and reach is one of the largest in Mexican soccer.

Pumas will decide the fate of Santiago Solari in Club América

If Las Águilas don’t manage to win against Pumas, Santiago Solari could be having his last moments in Club América’s dugout, given that they have won just one game in over 130 days, and the team doesn’t seem to have a clear idea to follow every time they’re on the pitch.

That doesn’t seem to stop young players from dreaming of arriving in El Nido, as Luca Martínez Dupuy recently revealed when asked if he ever wanted to play in Liga MX, given that he already debuted in Argentina’s top flight. He said that he would love to play in any Mexican team, but Club América has been his dream since forever.

Who is Luca Martínez Dupuy?

The 20-year-old forward was born in San Luis Potosi in 2001, when his father was playing in Liga MX. He’s made his career in Argentina, specifically with Rosario Central, club that he joined last season after being part of their academy teams.

So far, he’s played 43 games for La Academia Rosarina, in which he’s scored 7 goals and assisted on 2 occasions. In the past winter transfer window, Atlanta United tried to acquire the young striker, but Rosario Central refused to let him go, as they felt the one-year loas with option to buy wasn’t the best deal for them, given that Martínez Dupuy only has a year left on his contract.

Can he play for Mexico National Team?

Martínez Dupuy holds both Mexican and Argentinean citizenships, although he’s decided to play for Mexico National Team, saying that “he’s really compromised and will leave the life on the pitch for Mexico.”

He also said that he’s “really grateful and really proud of representing the country. I was born in Mexico, is my country and I will represent them with everything I have.” So far, he’s played in the U-20 and U-21 squads, as he’s still waiting to be considered by Gerardo Martino for the senior team.
