The game between Pumas and Club América on the round 7 of Clausura 2022 is one of the most expected games of the season so far, not only because it’s the Clásico Capitalino and the first derby of the season, but also of the implications that will have for the remainder of the season.

Emilio Azcárraga is not only looking to replace Santiago Solari, but also Santiago Baños

Andrés Lillini and his players are after the three points, as if they win, they’ll be part of the teams fighting for Liga MX leadership, given that they’ll have 13 points and will stand 4th in Clausura 2022, just three points away from current leaders.

But if they manage to beat Las Águilas, they could end with Santiago Solari’s stint as Club América coach, given the poor results América have on the season, as they have won just one game and tied another, to currently stand 16 in Clausura 2022.

Santiago Solari knows this is his last chance to prove why he coached Real Madrid in the past and helped Las Águilas become Liga MX leaders just a season ago, when they finished Apertura 2021 with 35 in 17 games, a version of Las Águilas that we are still waiting to arrive.

Who can replace Solari?

Emilio Azcárraga had a talk with Solari and Las Águilas players prior their game against Mazatlán, giving them a grace period to overcome the weak start they had in Clausura 2022. Said grace period ends tonight, which is why they will face Pumas as a final.

If they don’t manage to win, the coach that could arrive in Las Águilas dugout will be Diego Ramírez, current Club América Sporting Director, who will be the interim coach until Santiago Baños and Emilio Azcárraga decide who to hire.

Is Solari the only one that will leave América?

Emilio Azcárraga is aware that within the dressing room there’s players that don’t agree with Santiago Solari’s decisions, which is why they are waiting for Solari to leave to start playing at the level they’re used to. Azcárraga won’t tolerate their indiscipline and will look to sell Richard Sánchez, Roger Martínez and Bruno Valdez once Clausura 2022 is over.
