After they finished the regular season of Apertura 2021 as Liga MX leaders, Club América have won just a single game, as they were eliminated by Pumas in quarterfinals and then, for Clausura 2022, they had to wait until February to earn their first victory.

But their problems don’t end up there, as they haven’t been able to earn a single point when playing at home, the four points they have are a result of a draw against Club Puebla in Estadio Azteca and a victory against Santos Laguna in TSM.

Emilio Azcárraga had a conversation with Santiago Solari and the players a couple weeks ago, when he visited Las Águilas facilities once it was evident that things weren’t working within the roster, but it seems that his attempt to improve the club’s morale failed.

The only absence during that meeting was Santiago Baños, as he felt it was unnecessary to be part of it, given that the ones that got the club into the current crisis were the players and Solari, not him, although during his stint as Club América’s chairman, Las Águilas have won just one Liga MX title, back in 2018.

What will Emilio Azcárraga do?

Reports suggested that Azcárraga is going to wait until Las Águilas play their match against Pumas next weekend, a game that he hopes will become an inflection point and helps the team get back on track, but if Club América fails to win the first Clásico of the season, Solari will probably have coached his last game in Liga MX.

Although Solari will be the first one to lose his job in El Nido, Azcárraga is not happy with the decisions taken by Santiago Baños, which is why he’s also looking to replace him, although he’ll wait until Clausura 2022 ends to rescind his contract.

Who can arrive in their place?

Neither Emilio Azcárraga nor Santiago Baños have a plan B to replace Santiago Solari, as they thought he was the perfect fit for Club América. If Solari ends up leaving Las Águilas dugout, it will be Diego Ramírez who assumes the position until the end of the season.

During the summer, Diego Ramírez, who currently is the Sporting Director of Club América, will become Baños replacement, and between him and Azcárraga will look for a long-term solution to become the next Las Águilas coach.
