Club América is going through one of the biggest sporting crises that can be remembered, at least since the short tournaments were established in Liga MX, as they are having the worst start in Liga MX since 1996, with just one victory and one draw in six games.

Ochoa couldn’t stand the mistakes Club América defenders had and exploded against his teammates

They have yet to win their first game in Estadio Azteca in 2022, as they’ve lost against Atlas by a 2-0 score, Atlético San Luis by a 3-2 score, and CF Pachuca by a 3-1 score, exposing that the rivals are no longer afraid of playing against them in their home turf.

Although Santiago Baños and Emilio Azcárraga claimed that they’ll wait until Las Águilas face Pumas next week until they make a decision about Santiago Solari’s future, but the truth is that they are already looking for potential replacements, given that the Argentinean coach hasn’t been close to what was expected of him.

Who could replace Santiago Solari?

According to sports journalist Jonatan Peña, Club América is seriously considering Matías Almeyda to arrive in El Nido, given that he knows Liga MX, has said that he’d love to coach in Mexico again and his contract with San José Earthquakes is about to finish.

If his arrival in Coapa materializes, Almeyda will shake things up, as he is known for liking to give young players the chance of showing why they’re called to be the future of Mexican soccer, which is why he’d remove Guillermo Ochoa from the starting XI.

Almeyda’s numbers with Chivas

When Matías Almeyda arrived in Liga MX in Apertura 2015, everyone questioned why a club like Chivas was betting on a coach without much experience to be the revulsive they needed, but on his first year as coach, Chivas won Copa MX, and a year and a half later El Rebaño won their last Liga MX title.

One semester later Chivas won CONCACAF Champions League on the last season Almeyda was in El Rebaño’s dugout. On the three years he was in Chivas, Almeyda coached a total of 104 games, winning 35 of them, drawing 36 and losing the remainder 33.
