Carlos Vela scored a hat-trick in LAFC's opener against Colorado Rapids, has Gerardo Martino already sought him out to return to the Mexican national team?

For Diego “Cholo” Simeone, he’s been an essential player at times, although he often forgets about his qualities and abilities, and decides to bench him for long periods of time, which have resulted in the bad shape he’s showed on the last games he’s played for Mexico National Team.

Although he plays in one of the best leagues in the world, with one of the most competitive teams La Liga has -let’s not forget that Atlético won La Liga last season-, his lack of playing time is what made El Tri followers and analysts to question his callings, as he often looked slow and out of shape in the middle of the pitch.

That was one of the main reasons of talks around his future, as a contract extension with Atlético was out of the picture and his potential arrival to MLS was strengthen as days went by. But now, after three straight apparitions on the starting XI of Simeone, and the praise he’s had from his performances, a new door could open for him.

Which team is offering to stay in Europe?

After being one of the most outstanding players in the games against Celta de Vigo, Osasuna and Manchester United, the possibility of a renewal with Atlético Madrid is more alive than ever, as they could offer him a $3 million deal for two seasons, something that will benefit the Mexican midfielder, especially in a World Cup year.

Duren February, reports linked him to MLS and his arrival in the United States was almost a deal done, as Houston Dynamo and Chicago Fire were set to have offered him millionaire deals to join them over the summer, but now those reports have seemed to fade away.

What’s in store for Herrera?

Atlético Madrid seems to have left their bad streak behind and although La Liga seems lost for this season, as Real Madrid is 15 points ahead of them, they’re still fighting for a Champions League place for next season, as they currently stand 5 with 45 points, same number as FC Barcelona and one behind Real Betis.

Atlético will face Real Betis this weekend on a match that can define the teams that play Champions League and Europa League next season. After their visit to Los Béticos, they will receive Cádiz in Wanda Metropolitano before playing the second leg of the round of 16 of this season’s Champions League in Old Trafford.

Atlético will close March visiting Rayo Vallecano on March 19, as the FIFA match window will take place from March 21 to March 30. Herrera will be part of the Mexico National Team roster that will face USMNT, Honduras and El Salvador.
